What is OPZELURA?

What it’s not is a steroid, pill, ointment, or injection. OPZELURA is a one-of-a-kind eczema treatment—a topical JAK inhibitor cream that targets eczema at a key source. It was studied across a range of skin tones and can be used where you have eczema, even sensitive areas like the face.

OPZELURA is a prescription topical cream that is FDA-approved for the short-term, non-continuous treatment of mild to moderate eczema (atopic dermatitis) not controlled on topical therapies in people 12 and older without weakened immune systems.

OPZELURA is for use on the skin only. Do not use in your eyes, mouth or vagina.

How OPZELURA works

First things first: inflammation

Before we can understand how OPZELURA works, it's important to learn what may cause eczema, a chronic inflammatory condition.

While we see and feel eczema on the surface of the skin, it actually starts below the surface. Research has shown that people with eczema have an imbalance in part of their immune system, which causes too much inflammation in the body. Inflammation is what causes eczema symptoms like rash, red bumpy skin, and itch on the skin. And when you scratch that itch, it creates even more inflammation, which in turn causes more itch and rash. This is called the itch-scratch cycle, and it often repeats and can worsen without treatment.

Targeted treatment

In people with eczema, a system called the JAK/STAT pathway may be out of balance, contributing to inflammation throughout the body. Inflammation is what causes the signs and symptoms of eczema. OPZELURA is a topical JAK inhibitor, meaning it targets the JAK/STAT pathway, which is believed to help regulate signaling behind inflammation.
